Yachting Croatia

Sailing School

As part of the Mediterranean, Croatia is considered one of the countries that have a rich maritime history and tradition, as well as the history of sailing itself. The earliest beginnings of sailing in Croatia date from the 19th century when the first sailing clubs started to be established. Today Croatia has top sailors who, in the early classes, are realizing excellent results in Croatia and the World.

Our purpose is to promote sailing with an emphasis on recreation and entertainment, and encourage as many people as possible to take part in this beautiful sport. In collaboration with professional yachtsmen, skippers and professors of Kinesiology we strive to provide maximum quality of service through our educational program.

Programs of Sailing School and Skippers Training are created in a way to be as interesting and accessible to our students as possible. Goals of sailing school are: that the attendees learn and complete a specific program to the highest standards, to create a team spirit among the attendees, to familiarize them with their daily tasks and the organization on board.

In short, introduce attendees to the way of life on board a boat. Together with the envisaged educational program, we also wish to introduce attendees to the local stories and places that we are to visit, so that at the end of the course the attendees will have enjoyed a rich and unforgettable experience.

Basic course

The aim of the course is to familiarize attendees with the basic techniques of sailing through the theoretical and practical teaching with a methodological approach. Theoretical teaching includes introduction of basic terms related to the sailboat and sailing, reading of nautical charts, fundamentals of meteorology, rules of avoiding collisions, rescuing a man in the sea, etc. Practical teaching includes maneuvering a sailboat using an engine, preparing the ship for sailing, sailing with given course, change of the direction of the wind and downwind, reefing the sails and their adjustment, handling ropes, making knots, etc. Complete program lasts seven days.

Advance course

The course is intended for people who past our program of basic course or for those who already possess certain knowledge of sailing. This course is actually an upgrade of the previously acquired knowledge and preparation for sailing on your own. It is about a program through which attendees will learn how and in which manner to use a spinnaker, anchoring, maneuvering a sailboat using an engine, leaving and docking. The attendees will exercise navigation, determining position by using a hand compass, nautical charts and a GPS. From the first day, the complete organization on the boat, as well as everyday duties on-board, cleaning, cooking, etc are determined.Through seven days of sailing, the aim is to sail as many nautical miles as possible and to acquire as much knowledge and experience at sea by repetition and practice.

Navigation course

The aim of the course is to enable attendees to apply their acquired knowledge for their future independent sailing. The course is intended for all those who possess knowledge of advanced sailing course and specific sailing experience. Through this program, attendees are "drilled" for practical navigation with terrestrial and electronic navigation, both by day and by night. In addition, the attendees learn how to recognize ship lights, characteristics of lighthouses and other. "Wild" overnight stay will be organized, for example, finding a safe anchorage and sailing according to GPS and nautical maps. Practical training in determining a position and designation of the course towards the desired goal will be performed. The plan is to sail as many nautical miles as possible and visit as many islands we can in seven days.

Weekend course

During the two day intensive sailing program, the aim is to teach attendees the basic skills and knowledge of sailing. This program includes the following: theoretical and practical part of teaching (meteorology, nautical charts, on sailing boats in general, maneuvering engine, sailing on default route, changing direction according to the wind...). Participants will also learn about the organization of life on board a vessel and will have the opportunity to reveal their culinary abilities.

Regatta course

The aim of the course is to train attendees so that they may attempt to participate independently in competitive sailing and to apply acquired knowledge successfully at the regatta field. The course is intended for all attendees who want to attempt competitive sailing, and for those who possess knowledge of advanced course, i.e., specific sailing experience. During the course, participants become familiar with the theory and regatta rules, terms used in the regattas, what is the ship survey and how it affects the result. All the participants will be passing all the positions on the boat and the accent is on developing stronger team spirit, which is very important in the regatta process. Improving reefing sails and masts is to be improved. Special attention is dedicated to work with a spinnaker. Over the course of the entire program, the situation trainings are conducted simulating the regatta conditions such as the arrival and round passing of marks, simulation of regatta start... We can also organize participation in one of the regattas for all attendees upon request.
