Balearic sea

The Balearic Sea is part of the Mediterranean and is sandwiched between the east coast of Spain, the Southern coast of France and the Italian islands of Corsica and Sardinia. At its centre lies Spain’s Balearic Islands, an archipelago formed of islands and islets, the largest of the islands are Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Valencia and Barcelona are the most well-known ports along this coast.

Palma de Mallorca lies on the south coast of Mallorca and is the largest city and capital of the Balearic Islands. Evidence of Mallorca’s history dates back to the Iron Age with the Talayot culture, then, like much of Europe – Romans, Byzantines, Moors through to the Christian reconquest. Maritime trade and even piracy dominated this port and region. Today Palma de Mallorca is a popular travel and boating destination, thanks to its mix of nature, beaches, rich history and nightlife. The 13 th Century Gothic Cathedral ‘La Seu’ (Cathedral of Light) is easily one of the most impressive monuments on the island, or wander the honey-colored alleyways, lined with a number of baroque buildings, aristocrat houses, quaint eateries and vibrant markets.
